New music!!!!!

Hello everyone!  It's been a minute...I just wanna let you guys know we're working on some new music (Yay!!!!).  We wrote about 8 songs.  We need a couple more tunes worthy of album readiness.  I would say the songs this go-around take on a more groove-oriented feel.   Think Jeff Lorber meets D-For, if I were to best describe the sound.  Definitely, it's more radio-friendly, but not lacking the interesting turns and twists generally associated with our sound.  We can't wait to get it out there for you guys to listen to it.   Maybe, if and when we have some listenable and ready tracks, we will put some teasers or samples up on our site for a sneak preview.

In other band news, we're honored to be playing the Willingboro Jazz Festival this year.  On top of that, we are blessed to open up the show with one of our music heroes in the game -- Mr. Gerald Veasely!!!!  As a matter of fact, Gerald's booking agent is our booking agent.  So, it worked out pretty well that we get to share the stage together for the very 1st time.   The actual gig is September 9th, 2007.

I'll keep you posted as more gigs/news/music arrives.  Also, don't forget to check our website for upcoming performances.  We'll try to update you as best as we can.

Well, my time is up...I'll chat wit cha later...Peace!

B as in "Buzz"

Well, it's good to be a feature artist for a radio interview.  Such was the case with the band.  Last Tuesday, we had the opportunity to be interviewed via cell phone by Scott Stevens of WAPL-FM (Green Bay, WI.)  The actual format of the radio is AOR (Adult-Oriented Rock), but they do showcase jazz artists on their Sunday Morning Jazz show with Scott Stevens.  The interview, although only lasted almost 15 minutes, should last close to 20-25 minutes after editing.  The interview will be broadcast this Sunday, August 27th at 7:15AM.   If by any chance you are reading this blog and you live in that area of the United States, remember to tune in if you can.  For those living outside that area, the station is gracious and kind enough to mail us (free of charge) a copy of the entire interview for us to publish on our website. We hope to have it up in few weeks.

In other good news, the band had a successful outing at the Cheltenham Township "Concerts in the Park" series last Sunday afternoon.  We closed the entire series, which showcases bands of all genres of music, including rock, folk, blues, and jazz (D-For).  Our sax player, Carl, could not make the concert due to a scheduling conflict with him performing with Kirk Franklin at Unity Day in Philly.  However, he enlisted the services of his good friend, Ben Vinci, who did an admirable job filling in for Carl on such a short notice.  We were also delighted to have veteran salsa/jazz/pop singer Gloria Allende to accompany the band on five tunes.  She really wowed the crowd with her salsa dance moves and sultry stage presence.  Gloria is a regular performer at Zanzibar Blue, a reknowned jazz club/restaurant in Center City Philadelphia.   For more info on Gloria, her website is http://www.gloriaallende.com.

State of Jazz Music

Hey 'y'all...

I was curious to know what some of you reading this blog thought of the current state of jazz music - but not limited to only jazz - and what would you like to see in the game.  I for one would love to hear more of the vintage 70ish fusion jazz that so permeated the time - a la Herbie and the HeadHunters, some old Chick Corea, even vintage Spiro Giro.

OK, I love to hear what YOU have to say.....Peace out!

D-For Happenings

What's happening everyone!!

Glad you have become part of a great community of jazz and D-For enthusiasts.  I just wanna update everyone that D-For is making moves.  We are creating some buzz in the industry.   For starters, check out Smooth Soul's website.  D-for is featured as a new artist, right next to a veteran, Elaine Elias.  Also, "INTERSECTION", D-For's new blazing release, was submitted to the Recording Academy for "Best Contemporary Jazz Album" nomination.   The Grammys are showcased every February, so let's pray and believe God for His favor...we trully believe this is our best offering to date, and we hope it goes far in the nomination process.

Well, that's it for now...we'll keep you posted as more gigs and events come our way. In the meantime, conitnue to give us your feedback, suggestions, comments, or whatever.

Peace!

Contemporary Jazz - Current Directions in Modern Jazz Music

Jazz is exeriencing an all time high in popularity these days. But exactly what is Contemporary Jazz? Fusion? Modern?

The contemporary jazz scene is populated by artists working in many different styles, some of them hard to define. Wynton Marsalis, the artistic director of Jazz at Lincoln Center, has been described as a Neo-traditionalist - an artist who embraces a specific jazz canon, and rejects experimentation at the expense of tradition. Other artists, like Pat Metheny, have developed an electrified, melodic style that appeals to a wide audience. Bands like Medeski, Martin and Wood, The Bad Plus, and E.S.T. mix modern jazz with popular music, appealing to the young and hip. Source
